After the experiment with my Batgirl pixel art poster went pretty well, I decided to keep going with the pixel thing, but not base the image on any pre-existing image. I eventually ended up with this image of Spider-Gwen, a then-recent addition to the Spider-Man family of characters.
Spider-Gwen is Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker’s dead girlfriend. Except she’s from an alternate dimension where Gwen was bitten by the radioactive spider instead of Peter, took up the mantle of Spider-Woman, and eventually ended up in the regular Marvel Universe. She featured pretty heavily in the Into the Spider-Verse film.
These days, Gwen goes by the codename “Ghost Spider,” because there are already a handful of other Spider-Womans (Spider-Women?) in the Marvel U.
Looking back on this a few years later, I think that there should be a checkerboard-gradient between the purple and black parts of the sky, behind the buildings. And I might add or subtract a pixel here or there to smooth out some of the curves of her body. Otherwise, though, I’m still pretty happy with how this turned out!
