This film came out on 30 March 1990. I’m writing this up in early February, because I was gonna post it now, but then realized it made more sense to wait for the film’s anniversary.
If you grew up in the 80s and/or 90s, you probably remember the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles VHS cover art looking like this:
But if you’ve bought it on DVD, you’ve probably ended up with one of these boxes, which are all disgusting eyesores for one reason or another — The blue one is especially atrocious, because that’s the Leonardo costume from the third movie.
Anyways, back in college, I redesigned the TMNT DVD cover to be a closer match to the VHS box. It’s not identical, but I definitely wanted to keep something along the same lines as the cover box I grew up with. I used the plot synopsis from the UK release, so that it was less early-90s surfer slang, and more of an actual description of the movie.
And then I lost that file to a hard drive crash, so I made it again in 2014:
If you click on that image, a full-size one will pop up that you can print out and slide in over any of the DVD inserts you may have bought.
Maybe I’ll do a Blu Ray insert at some point.
Happy 31st anniversary, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie!
Here’s the original theatrical trailer, complete with all the wrong voices, for as long as this YouTube video exists:
